She was the first female Soviet cosmonaut to travel in space. On 16 June 1963, Valentina was launched on a solo mission on the spacecraft Vostok 6. This was happening two years after the space journey of Yuri Gagarin, the first human sent into space. Valentina spent more than 70 hours orbiting the Earth.

Valentina was born on 6 March 1937 in the village of Bolshoe Maslennikovo in central Russia. His mother worked in a clothing factory and father drove a tractor, who was later recognized as a war hero during World War Two. At the time of her death on the Finnish front, Valentina was only two years old.

Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, she was the official head of state and was elected a member of the World Peace Council in 1966. Today, 85-year-old Valentina holds the position of Vice President for the Committee on International Affairs in Russia. He is also very active in the space space community.
