History of Kargil Vijay Diwas
Since the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, there have been several conflicts and engagements between India and Pakistan over the control of the Siachen Glacier. In May 1999, Pakistani armed forces entered the Line of Control (LOC) to cut ties between Kashmir and Ladakh. In this way, they infiltrated Indian territory and captured mountain ranges to target Indian soldiers. The Indian government soon swung into action and responded with ‘Operation Vijay’.
