Indian weightlifters continue to perform well in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Jeremy Lalrinnunga has won the gold medal for India in the 67 kg weight category. Jeremy Lalrinnunga lifted a total of 300 kg, setting a Games record. This is India’s second gold and fifth overall medal in the current Games. The special thing is that all these five medals have been achieved by India in the weightlifting event itself.

India has got the fifth medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Jeremy Lalrinnunga won the gold medal in men’s weightlifting 67kg category. Jeremy Lalrinnunga lifted a record 140 kg in the snatch, while he managed to lift 160 kg in the clean and jerk. That is, making a Games record, he lifted a total of 300 kg and won the gold medal.

The special thing is that in the Commonwealth 2022, India has got five medals by weightlifters so far. Where Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu won gold in the 49 kg weight category. On the other hand, Sanket Mahadev men’s 55 kg weight category and Bindiyarani Devi also won silver medal in women’s 55 kg weight category. Apart from this, Gururaja Pujari was successful in winning the bronze medal in the 61 kg weight category.

Record was made in Youth Olympics

Jeremy won the gold medal in the boys’ 62 kg weightlifting event at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. Jeremy lifted 150 kg in snatch round 124 and clean and jerk. That is, Jeremy had won this medal by lifting a total of 274 kg. With this, Jeremy became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Youth Olympics. Then Jeremy also won the silver medal in the Asian Weightlifting Championship.
